Something about me

I have been interested in ceramics since school and have collected studio pottery for most of my adult life. More recently, I have become an enthusiastic potter in my own right, producing individual hand-built and thrown stoneware pieces in a tiny home studio.

I have arranged my collection under four general headings*:  Limina, Weaves, Geometrics and Wares. These pages can be opened from the Menu at the top of the page or from the See more buttons within the text.

These headings are not mutually exclusive as pieces can sometimes fit into more than one different category.

'Limina' strip vase - textured strip body with satin oxide finish 300x240mm (lens cross-section).

Limina pieces exist somewhere between sculpture and decorative / functional ware. They often take the general form of a useable object (bowl, vase, etc) but are incomplete or deliberately broken (sometimes with clearly evident repairs).

Woven plate - heavily textured circular strip plate with variagated matt glaze 180mm diameter.

Weaves also use the simple forms of functional domestic wares but subvert their purpose to some degree (such as a bowl that cannot hold fluid). More or less loosely woven they are constructed from defined and frequently textured strips of clay.

'Turbine' Bowl - shallow folded ('origami') bowl with 'velvet' blue finish 270mm diameter.

Wares are either functional domestic or semi-functional decorative pieces. They may be wheel-thrown, press-moulded or built from individual coils or slabs.

Cube vase - (above) slab-built specimen vase 80x80x80mm

Geometrics are sometimes functional, sometimes not. All have a clear emphasis on the regular shapes and forms of simple geometry (triangles / pyramids / cones, squares / cubes, circles / spheres, etc).

Triangular 'trinket' pots - (below) slab-built pots finished with Raku glazes in various sizes (100x90x50mm max).
